I have lots to say about this weekend. So if you get tired of reading just close the tab, I don't control your life.
1) I managed to get the Nike Gladiateur Mids! THE LAST PAIR IN SINGAPORE. I think fate intervened in my being able to embrace the shoes. I wasn't even really planning to be in Orchard. Bee wanted to meet me there. So I went. Then, we went to Nike Wisma Atria. The shoes weren't on display but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. So I asked a saleslady about them. She looked at my feet and went "We have one last pair left. I think you should be able to fit." And I tried them. And they DID fit! YAY!
Another bit of coincidence. The saleslady I asked was the only one in the store who knew that there was one pair left. Someone (to whom I am indebted to for all eternity) reserved them and then didn't want (!) them in the end. So she was the one who kept them in the storeroom. If I'd asked someone else, I would've been told that they were all sold out. ONE WEEK. That's all it took. GOSH. Next time they'll be in will probably be next year.
There were no more black ones but I have black gladiators anyway so imagine the shoe above in silver with hot pink where the gold bits are. PRETTY RIGHT??? ^^ *Jacq, as my future roomie, I promise to lend you the shoes whenever I bring them to hall. Sumpah.*
2) After a very long spell of not grooving, I and Salome and Charmaine and 2 of Salome's friends got together to put on a performance as part of a campaign to raise awareness for the intellectually disabled. That happened about 8 hours ago.
This is the video of all our weeks of hard practice and...umm...descent into bimbotism.
HAHAHAHA! How about that. Melati, I'm sorry for laughing when you break into random dances. It's fun. Hehe.
By the way, the little lady in the video is Tingting. She's intellectually disabled but can function at a higher level so she actually holds a job under open employment. She's 24 years old this year. I am so amazed by her. She's very sweet and can play the piano (Grade 6! While I, with a more or less healthy mind, don't know tau geh from brussels sprouts) and likes to play Teen Titans on cartoonnetwork.com. :D We bonded over that for a while, until I asked if she likes to play the Powerpuff Girls games (which I still love) and she just looked at me and said "Aiyo. I grow up already loh."!!!!!!!! OUCH. Such a blow to my heart of spun glass. Of course, the rest of the gang were tickled pink by that little quip.
It was a little hard talking to her not just because of her speech defects but because she was obviously brought up speaking MANDARIN, of which I am slowly losing the ability to speak as time goes by. I swear, she was reciting Tang poetry and it was like she was speaking Klingon. And everytime I tried to speak to her, Charmaine would very helpfully start laughing at me. And she can write in Olden Chinese! While, as Charmaine cheerfully informed the rest, I have problems with the Simplified Modern Chinese. Yep. Aku rase aku jadi cina melayu sua. Melayu pon lagi senang nak belajar.
3) The final rankings of the National Bouldering League are out.
Okay la. Considering I didn't train for all the competitions AND I missed one, being 1 short of the top 10 is pretty astonishing. Let's see if I can better this next year. *The chances of my ranking dropping like a suicidal elephant is definitely more favourable right now.*
And THAT concludes this update. Tune in next week, same time same place, for the 10 o'clock news. Good night.
*There are annoying people in the house opposite singing karaoke VERY loudly. So far I've heard Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Jackson 5. Now it's some early 90's let's-hear-it-for-the-boys-style pop. SMITE THEM.*
